Got An Idea? Tell Michelle!!
I was born in New Mexico, spent most of my childhood in the mountains of Colorado, and ended up in Missouri close to Kansas City. Recently my family relocated to Arvada, Colorado, to be closer to my beloved mountains. Much of my artistic inspiration comes from my childhood home, a small family lodge named Rockledge outside Allenspark, Colorado. As a child, I spent many hours exploring the mountains and committing all the tiniest details to memory.
I have always been interested in art, but I was diverted by the need to make a living and raise my family. I dabbled in every craft imaginable and was fascinated with stained glass. I decided to pursue that interest and took a stained glass class from Rebecca Hite at A Stained Glass Station in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. My goal was to make a window capturing the mountain beauty of my childhood for the home of my adulthood. I spent so many hours prowling around the glass selection at the store and absorbing every bit of education that was available to me that she hired me full-time.
The years I spent working full time at Rebecca’s store were invaluable to me as an artist. I learned the ins and outs of stained glass design, fabrication, and repair, as well as, glass fusing and mosaic. I have attended trade shows and taken classes from other glass industry leaders.
One of my greatest pleasures comes from bringing to fruition the wishes and ideas of a customer. Stained glass adds interest and character to any space. Unlike other art forms, the appearance of glass constantly shifts depending on time of day, weather and season. It also has the unique ability to add beauty to the exterior of your home as well as the interior. There is nothing quite as welcoming as a beautiful entry accented with glass.
